Chamber Announces 2018 July 4th Parade Grand Marshal

June 20, 2018

The 44th Annual Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration is just around the corner and preparations are in full swing at the Granbury Chamber of Commerce. One of the great anticipations of the annual event is naming of the grand marshal for the Hometown Parade.

This year, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to name the Kevin Downing Family as the Grand Marshal. Kevin Downing served as Chairman of the Board in 2005 and has acted as the parade boss for more than 14 years.

Kevin and his family have always been community-minded and given to Granbury generously of their time and resources. In addition to his time with the Chamber, Kevin has served as the chairman of the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association, as well as with the distinguished conservation group, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Kevin has devoted time to the Acton United Methodist Church, serving as chairman of the Administrative Council, the Building Committee, and the Finance Committee, as well as serving as Treasurer. He has been an active participant in the Hood County Library Expansion project, Habitat for Humanity, and the Hood County Library Foundation.

The Downing family has rodeo roots and this shows in their active participation in various cowboy organizations. He has served on the executive committee and as treasurer of the National Cowgirl Museum, is a former member of the Lena Pope Show and Rodeo, was the superintendent of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo for 17 years.

Kevin continues to give of his time and efforts to worthy causes. He is currently serving on the board of the Shared Benefit Community Foundation, and is a co-chair of the Brad Wright Charity Golf Classic benefiting Happy Hill Farm. He stays active in local and state politics, and nurtures the same love of community and national pride in his daughter, Payton.

“The Granbury Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to honor the Kevin Downing family as we help Granbury, Hood County and Texas celebrate our freedom this Fourth of July,” stated Mike Scott, Chamber president and CEO.
